KnowledgeTree listed in Optaros Open Source Catalogue 2007
January 16, 2007 – 8:26 pmKnowledgeTree is listed in the recently released Optaros Open Source Catalogue 2007, a white paper designed “to give IT decision makers navigation support by listing the most relevant, useful and enterprise-ready open source platforms, components, frameworks and solutions in an easy-to-read overview.”
According to ComputerWorld, the catalogue has stirred up some controversy: “Open-source software catalog draws fire from those snubbed“.
Apparently, to be listed in the catalogue is in itself an impressive feat but I too can’t help feeling that the reviews are somewhat synthetic and shallow. We’ve been rated as “not progressing” and only scored a single * for enterprise readiness. I find this somewhat surprising in light of us having landed a very significant number of enterprise and departmental customers over the 7 months since we first shipped a commercial edition of KnowledgeTree. The community, our partner companies and customers have also responded very positively to the recent release of KnowledgeTree Open Source 3.3.
UPDATE: Stephen Walli, who I met briefly at OSBC West last year and who used to work for Optaros as VP Open Source Development Strategy, does make a point that the catalogue calls for people to provide feedback should they believe it is inaccurate.

Daniel, if you have any comments we will be very happy to take them into account for any future versions of the catalog. Also, are you aware of the fact that we evaluated an earlier version of KT in our OSS DMS white paper? If not, you can find it here.
Let me know what you think.

Hello Sebastian,
I’ve dropped Dave Gynn an email (after having been introduced to him by Stephen Walli). We’re certainly interested in learning more about the criteria used to rate applications. We are also very keen to demonstrate more modern versions of KnowledgeTree to you guys to demonstrate the new stuff we’re rolling out.
Thanks for the pointer to the White Paper, Seth Gottlieb very kindly sent us a copy early last year.
All the best,
Daniel
